The TEAC CD-ROMs 524 and 532 can be updated with a new Firmware, which ensures
a better audio reading rate.
Unfortunately the Update is not so easy.
The text below is from Martin Stephan:
First download the Firmware 3.0a at http://www.teac.co.jp/dspd/product/software/romupdate/explain.html.
The Firmware 3.0a is for the drives Teac 524 and 532. By the way: The server is extremly slow, but you should just download the 1 MByte sized file, since for the maximum audio performance both parts are needed.
For the Update you
should close all programs at Windows 95® and must not shut down your computer
or open the tray of the CD-ROM.
Do not leave a CD in the CD-ROM. Start the program and follow the explanations.
Wait. Then do the offered restart.
Even after the update the thing will remain tricky:
First you must install the Teactool for setting the speed und start
it.
Then you have to modify to file teac*.ini at the Windows-directory. The only
valid entry of this file is CDDA-Speed, the rest is just comment. This number
can be 4,16,24 (for the 24 times TEAC) or 32. [I have chosen 16 for safety reasons
and got effectively 10.9 times grabbing rate without jitter or other errors.]
But with entering this value you're still not finished. You have to start the Teactool again und close it, so that you can finally enjoy the better grabbing rate after restarting Windows again.
Have fun.
